What’s new in the gaming industry?

The Video Game History Foundation (VGHF) has launched a free digital archive for researchers, developers, and historians. The library includes game design documents, artwork, promotional materials, and rare out-of-print magazines like GamePro and EGM. It also features event guidebooks and searchable directories from past gaming expos like E3.

However, due to copyright restrictions, users cannot reproduce materials, and retail games are not included. Despite these limitations, the VGHF aims to expand its archive and continue preserving gaming history for future generations. Developers can contribute historical materials to support this effort.

Ted Price, founder and CEO of Insomniac Games, will step down in March 2025 after leading the studio for over three decades. Chad Dezern, Ryan Schneider, and Jen Huang will take over as co-studio heads.

Price highlighted Insomniac’s strong position, with current projects progressing well. He expressed gratitude for his team, calling Insomniac his “home away from home.”

This leadership change comes after a major ransomware attack on the studio in late 2024 and amid high expectations following Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s 2.5 million+ sales milestone. Insomniac now enters a new era under fresh leadership.
